Could be nice one! Would you advice to embed actual coins or to made their designs in the relief? Btw, in 1996, RAM "went alive" with similar idea, and minted commemorative 1oz silver coin which depicts the coinage. ebay item ID = 172324671665

Hi Silveroid,
I would have their reliefs made in the design. I would also make the corresponding obverses as well.
I would also go SUPER LIGHT on the frosting so that all the details come in nicely.

Nice idea! Maybe the RCM is already hard at work on it! The minute I saw your concept, I thought of this medal from 1968 that was struck by the Lombardo Mint. It was produced as a commemorative for the RCM's 60th anniversary.

That would be so cool, to actually put the original coins in the big coin!
Or to actually counter stamp the big struck coin with polished rev dies of the original designs
I always wondered if the mint will manufacture errors in nclt form, full brockage, mintage 5000-- 600$ Lol!
That 1968 medal is awesome!

wow, nice find commems!
I wanted to add leaves and other stuff but in the end I decided to keep the design clean and simple to focus on the DOLLARS.
Actually, my final concept would be "CANADA" & "DOLLARS" on the reverse - no date.
The date would be on the obverse ELIZABETH ... 2017
I haven't decided on a nominal value. $6 perhaps.

That would be the ultimate! But I doubt that the original dies still exist. Hummm.. Perhaps we can find some in other countries....?

well I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had the original hubs and punches that made the dies.

One would think the old dies are recycled after a year or two in storage

The mint could strike and sell 1921 50 centers if they wanted, and even do striking errors. Look what the bank hoard release did to original high grade owners!

One big difference with the BOC gold coins, they are owned by the BOC and RCM was contracted to sell them, I too was not happy in the way those coins were offered for sale as for the same exact reason of fairness to previous owners. The only major mint recently that resruck a coin was the Perth Mint in the 1990s or so and since has been paying for that decision.
