Hello folks!

A friend of mine has asked me to get some opinions on several coins that he has come across... there are some interesting ones, some of which, I believe to be counterfeit, and I will be posting several of them around the boards to get some opinions...

This is one of the coins in question. I feel so absolutely silly not realizing if this is even a half dollar or a dollar LOL.. Pennies are my thing really, not silver!

I've seen many posts here and other places about counterfeit 1797's, so I just have no idea what to make of this....

Your thoughts?

I am leaning towards it being fake.

a lot of these faked, also I haven't seen one with a misaligned die which also leads me to think it is fake

The way I took the photo is what makes you think the die is misaligned, so that is my fault! However, I am super suspicious of the authenticity as well... so we are all on the same page! LOL..

Can either of you share your specific thoughts, so I can have talking points with my friend? LOL

look at the edge

the originals are lettered, the fakes are usually reeded

Strike Two. This is also a fake, and not a good one. This is a recent Chinese concoction.

Also the 1837 was the first year they used a collar. So when you look at pre 1837 coins, they don't look exactly round. The profile is all wrong. Definitely counterfeit.

Hahahahaha Raymo, I actually just managed to make it out safely from a pile of 1970 pennies searching for a small date.
