So I'm a Canadian and enjoy collecting Canadian decimals but as of late I've really been attracted to learning and collecting many of the artifacts that are specifically related to the Hudson Bay Company.
Since there's so many collectors on this forum I figured someone might know if there's any resource materials or reference materials that relate specifically to HBC items.
I am aware of the HBC tokens and would like to get them but I also want to research other items that were also used in the times of the fur trade.
If anyone has any ideas, opinions or resources I certainly would appreciate it!

There was an inaugural meeting of a new HBC Collectors group at the RCNA convention in Ottawa this July. The guy who started it is in Ottawa and I am sure that he has oodles of information. I am not a member of this group so I do not have any contact information.

AgCoinAu, being an RCNA member, you know you have free access to the RCNA library. Log on through the member's part of the RCNA website, and send a notice to the RCNA Librarian (Dan Gosling). Also, RCNA Councillor, Jeff Chapman (USA - Eastern), is well versed in HBC tokens. http://www.rcna.ca/officials.php One dealer that I know that is knowledgeable in this area would be coin dealer Allan Davies (near Cornwall, Ontario). Allan is a member of CCF (Carpman) and was an active member on CCRS, but rarely participates here.

Unfortunately, while at Coin Expo in Toronto 10 days ago, we learned of the passing of Doug Robins, who had formidable knowledge of Canadian Colonial tokens and their many varieties, as well as many other areas of numismatics. For in-depth information on HBC tokens, the aforementioned Jeff Chapman would be the go-to guy.

Thank you Carpman! I will be sure to contact him as I have a few questions... I'm also interested in many other HBC items that may have been used in trade... things like blankets, tools, cooking utensils pretty much anything that can be linked back to the fur trading era really is fascinating to me right now and something I want to pursue.

They had some cool HBC stuff in the last Bell Auction catalogue. I thought of you when I seen it as I remember you mentioning you collected that stuff before.
Canadian History, formerly known as The Beaver, has some good information on HBC history/artifacts.

Harmonica: yes... I did see many of those items unfortunately I thought I had a deal lined up for 3-4 oz of Newfie coins and so I wasn't as aggressive with my bids on the items I liked in the GB auction. Net result I didn't get either the newfie coins or any of the HBC items.
Larry: you certainly do! That a pretty nice collection of the blankets you have there!
