Heritage claims counter-mark is 1890. Base coin is a London Mint MTT struck after 1936.... How dumb can you get!!

I have told them but from previous experience with them and MTTs I know they may well continue with the listing. The coin is so obviously London mint its an absolutely ridiculous listing. take note of the 1-2-1 tail formation... its a dead give away!!

Yes - I am not even an expert in anyway - same with Mexican WOI issues - the CIRCLE IS TOO PERFECT - FIRST TELL TALE SIGN - IMO. More importantly they are very good in cancelling an auction - just supply them your reasons. They are not high on their horse in these type of situations IMO.

I have done that this time and on previous occasions... However Heritage seems ( on the previous ocassions) to operate with the belief very few people can date MTTs so they apply the approach of "err on the side of profit". Notable is an Auction house like Steven Album will always note that these counter-marks on MTTs are regarded as Spurious, while Heritage very rarely notes such a caution.

Heritage is an auctioneer - their business is making money. They do NOT authenticate coins - I am not sure they have adequate expertise. They are hit or miss with removals.

It never hurts to advise them. Here they do not have NGC to use as a crutch.

For those who can't see how obvious the base coin is... I have taken heritages image and highlighted the tail feather formation( 1-2-1) ignoring an early re-strike that has the same tail feather count but much older design, London dies ( used in London and India) are the only ones to have this variation. Once you know what your looking at it is as obvious to the point of being equivalent to having the date stamped on the coin:

I get what you are saying, but it is the same problem I have with ebay. No one takes responsibility for making sure that items listed are authentic. No one does anything about it until a person points it out to them.

Everything is about plausible denial.
