I had seen the ad for awhile here on the forum and I eventually checked out the coins, such as:

CANNABIS SATIVA CANADIAN MAPLE LEAF Series BURNING MARIJUANA $5 Silver Coin 2016 Black Ruthenium & Gold Plated 1 oz

I like the design and I could see buying a couple of these as gifts for my cannabis connoisseur friends/family members.

Has anyone purchased one? If so, are you pleased with the coin?

Finally, does the Canadian government have to approve such coins?

Thanks!

Mark

Mark, maybe it is just me, but your links seems to be bad.

Ooops! Yeah, it doesn't work too well when you write it as:

url="Cannabis Sativa Canadian Maple Leaf Series"

Thank you Debrajc for the correct link. I also fixed the link in my original post.

To add a bit: there are several of these 'burning' silver maple leaf coins (Skull, Maple Leaf, Devil, Eagle etc.). A mint is Germany adds the effect to simple bullion coins and calls them limited editions.

Opinions vary between those who like and collect them and those who consider them post mint damage.

The Canadian government does not approve them and some believe they should be actively trying to stop the PMD.

Thank you CC-Ottawa! That is very helpful.

I think I'm going to pass on these coins then. I mean, if they were marketed as a sort of Hobo Nickel that would be fine, but that's not what they're doing.

Much appreciated,

Mark

I've seen this coin discussed in other posts. It is a beautiful coin, but I wonder if the market of buyers is limited for this coin. That crowd would rather get high than buy a coin.
