Yes, I know the prices are suspect if not fantasies in some cases. BUT, the amount of information this one little book has is unbelievable. If you can have only one coin reference this should be it. It is called the Red Book because of its red cover. The Red Book lists the values of practically every known U.S. coin ever minted, with most coins showing prices in several condition grades. My dad's old Blue book from the 1970's was all I had before........and that was NOT a good reference guide....(neat to compare though) Report this Post to the Staff

In Excel I have a list of all the coins along with Red Book price and the price I paid. I totalled the price columns and it ended up being almost the exact same! I was surprized it was that close. I am fairly upset that the greysheet has become available to everyone with $4. grmike Valued Member Canada 82 Posts	Posted 03/14/2008 12:51 pm What's the RedBook price for a 1994 P proof silver eagle ? pcgs lists it at around 200 dollars in pr63+ grade numismedia only shows up to pr60 and lists that grade at 32 dollars (doesn't seem realistic considering a couple were sold on ebay yesterday for close to or more than 200 dollars). Yes, the Blue Book is generally a "dealer price" guide to buy them......be great if the average fella could buy coins at those cheap wholesale prices ! But it's pretty unlikely......somewhere between there and the RedBook prices are more realistic for us. Some people look at the Blue Book as "buying" guide and the Red Book as a "selling" guide....but that's really not accurate at all either. What a dealer will pay and what we'll pay are light years apart ! Report this Post to the Staff
