came in today. Figured I would show it off a little.
Paid $8.50 on ebay. It is a little cloudy, but reverse looks really cool to me. Even with the cloudiness. The reverse design is what I like about the Ike dollars anyways.
Chose the 1974S Brown Box as my 1st one as this is my birth year.
It will start a controversy if I were to suggest that Ike was literally in military rank second only to Washington to all of the US presidents who held the rank of General prior to entering the office of President. Some may suggest that it is too bad we don't have such politicians available to us today to elect, I guess, So - I will not do that. I really like the halo toning around the eagle of the obverse of your coin. Considering that the issue price was $10 in 1974 and that would be about $50 today, you did well. We were excited when these came out and hoped they would retain some value. It is arguable that they did so. I think you did well and should cherish this capture for the rest of your life. You may find many more captures like this one but I am betting you will never find one more satisfying.
Most of these sell for between $13 and $15 from what I saw on ebay. I was the 1st one to bid on this one at $3.99 with a Max at $9.00.
The seller had less than 100 total feedback, doesn't usually sell coins, and only showed obverse pictures. This is why my max bid was so low. The reverse halo was a very nice surprise as a result. Probably would've sold for more if seller had taken reverse pics IMO.
So I went to visit my kids today. While I was at my sons' place, I asked him to keep a look out for Eisenhower dollars. His answer was he didn't know what they looked like, but he did have some dollar coins he had been saving for me to buy for face value if I wanted them. I said I would look at them figuring they would be the usual circulated Sacs. He comes back with 2 sacs and 3 (1974D, 1976D, and 1978P) Ikes. All circulated.
Then we stopped by my daughters house, and this time mom scored some foreign coins. My daughter had 3 ('81-'82) Mexican 20 pesos coins, a 1982 50 pesos coin, a 1992 10 pence coin, and a 1969 Canadian Dollar she had been holding for mom. All circulated, but happy to add to moms collection.
