Well ... this one is at least not a counterfeit, just another example of incorrect card being inserted.

When I see these I never know whether to trust the grade and assume a typo on the year or to assume there's a 2006P floating around out there as a 2001P with perhaps a different grade.

Anyone know if ICCS offers to correct these?

Not quite an effigy error...Year typo errors seem to be more common lately. The 1891 recently discussed here was dated as 1892. The 1967 Dollar at one of my auctions is dated 1964. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...291910922964

This is my opinion... you're likely to get some margin of error in any business...

Let's say they make $8 per submission of which they have to cover their expenses and pay their salaries. My best guess is that they would then have to grade approximately 80-100 coins minimum per day. At 8 hours in a day that would give you just over 4.5 minutes from start to finish.... from opening the package all the way through grading it and putting it back into a package to be sent out.

That's honestly not a lot of time... I would also estimate that they would probably need to do around 30K of coins per year to be a sustainable business. I would guess that there will be some mistakes that will happen.

A typo on a certificate I could understand. But what are you paying for when you submit a coin? You're paying for one person's opinion on the grade. That's it! Unfortunately one thing I would expect is that a person that wants be an authority on grades would also catch counterfeits. The above and previous examples simply show that errors will occur.

What margin of error can you tolerate? And what do you expect for $8-$12? I don't think any of the big TPG's from south of the border are going to come up North at any time as Canada is just too small of a market.

Given how those cards are printed, human error does occur with ICCS coins. That said, ICCS will fix those - usually at no charge. I get about one typo for every 200 coins I submit.

Frankly - I find the title of this thread misleading... but I won't change it unless asked to do so.

It was intended to be tongue in cheek as opposed to misleading. 2006 and 2001 have different effigies.

Their name is International Coin Certification Service.
It is not the grade they are certifying as the grade is subjective and to guarantee(certify) it would imply they put their money where their opinion is ala PCGS.
No representation to their grading ability is mentioned anywhere, ever.
Each and every ICCS certificate states "IN OUR OPINION THIS IS A GENUINE ORIGINAL ITEM".
They are certifying that the coin is genuine, and state that tampering with the holder negates that opinion, nothing else, no mention is ever made regarding the grade..
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Gotta admit, I was expecting to see another counterfeit coin, but the OP does clarify it in his first sentence, so no harm no foul imho
