I agree. Acid dipped probably to alter it into a dime to use in a vending machine.

Thanks guys! And that is very cool what you can do with the photos to make them into usable demonstration coins of the various thins that show up on the Forum.

It just takes a few minutes and it is helpful as a teaching aid. The thanks goes to you for posting them. Do you like your logo? Probably a bat would be better?

We see a lot of these posted in the Canadian error section. Always good to post them if you aren't sure. Acid coins typically have thinner letters and a mushy appearance like this one.

Coop, I do like the logo! But yes, a bat would be better. Also, there are a few coins out there with bats on them, but have never run into one. I'll have to pick one up to create an appropriate avatar.

Yes! And I just ordered up a 2016 Austrian 3 Euro coin with a colored bat that apparently glows in the dark. Should be a good coin for an avatar to get all my bats in line.

What distinguishes a tropical bat from other kinds of bats, if I may ask?

Well, not much really. But there are quite a lot of different bats in the tropics that aren't typically in the temperate zones. The entire US has about 50 species of bats, while little Panama has nearly 120.

The biggest thing is the Old World flying foxes and the New World leaf-nosed bats. Both large groups of bats are mostly tropical and while I've done some work with flying foxes I have done quite a bit with leaf-nosed bats.

Some of my bat photography and work shows up on my blog. The bat section is at:

I hope it is cool to post a non-error coin link here
