I'm inclined to say physical damage - sometimes you see coins with striations on the surface but the extent of it on this coin doesn't seem like something that would come from regular production.

PMD for sure. Looks like it's been done over on both sides with a circular wire brush.

People will do all sorts of things to coins.

Noodling is fishing for catfish using only your bare hands, practiced primarily in the southern United States. Does noodling in Australian English mean the same thing? Just curious.

In Oz when we get bags of coins to search through, we're noodling.

Our Catfish have thumping big barbs on them, very similar to a stingray barb and just as painful.
No sane Aussie would attempt to catch these by hand.
There is also the problem of the large saltwater crocodiles that inhabit the same waters as well to consider

Ha ha different noodling meanings on opposite continents, I'm sure in Asia the meaning is much more apparent.

Yeah, its a relatively new term as far as Oz coins go as well,I've been around Coins/Stamps in NSW/Qld for nearly 50 years and never heard it mentioned as regards searching Coins until I joined this Forum.Previously in Oz. it was a term used by Opal Fossickers searching old mine sites and was also adopted by some of the metal detector guys as a term for random searching of an area.
Somewhere along the line, since the Internet started, its also been adopted by Coin collectors.

The reason I asked was I thought maybe the author of this post had been acting like Crocodile Dundee out in some swamp or something and found this coin while he was wrestling catfish. That would be a really cool story

catfish? only good for mudcrab bait .. ;)
it still is an interesting coin ..but I'm pretty sure some smart anti noodler used a dremel with wire brush just for a second on either side ..next question do the 2016 mob of roos have more Cuds on them than normal or do some of the small Cuds get knocked off with coin usage?
