Just my opinion, I could never trust that kind of certification. There are no holograms or anything else to minimize or prevent forgery. It is not, in any way, a safe investment. The only people who would ever think that is a safe purchase are the coin dealers selling coins in that way.

Remember that ICCS grades based on details only. It might not be appealing, but the detail might be there. I've seen a lot of coins of this style (ugly dark toning and fingerprints) in 65 holders. I guess the detail is there.

It's OK.

One good example of ICCS's technical grading.

One big difference between ICCS and PCGS is PCGS adds a point or two for lustre and ICCS does not.

I don't think PCGS would grade this as an ms65, most likely an ms64.

The flip side of this is there's plenty of brilliant white PCGS ms65's that are marked and ICCS would only grade as ms63 or ms64.

Another point - because of this higher grading for lustre in coins, I believe PCGS and NGC contributes to the dipping of coins, since an undipped coin usually grades out at a lower number.

I wouldn't buy a coin, certified or not, with pictures that are only slightly larger than life sized.

as for holder security... the guys making the holograms for hard shell holders are also probably supplying the counterfeiters so yeah... buy the coin not the holder. NO ONE's holder is secure.

Were you actually looking for a 47 ML quarter apitrix or did this only catch your eye because it's so ugly for the grade?

Actually it's a very nice coin....It probably shows field luster through the toning which is always a cool effect...I'd take this type of toning over a dipped coin any day... It's difficult to show that in a photograph....Here is an example of similar toning of a coin that looks much better in hand....http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1935-Canada-...STRK:MESE:IT

lusted through the toning

I don't think there'll be too many collectors lusting after it.
It's ugly.
Unlike the '35 dollar it looks like a dark and greasy tarnish rather than a pleasing patina.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I think that's a judgement call through plastic and distant pics. It's one of those coins one would have to see...I personally like stuff like that....

I will bet that coin has full pop under the lustre and is quite nice in hand. That said though , you have to find the right buyer who likes this "LOOK " . Most don't.
