Here's a coin from the back of the safe. The light streaks are reflections from the slab. This coin has some colorful rim toning that my photos unfortunately can't capture very well. What do you think? Edited by Jaobler 09/10/2008 2:47 pm

Besides one bag mark on Lincoln's shoulder I'd say it's a good MS66-67
is the W in "WE" a partial filled die?

Hi GO, No, that effect is due to a scuff on the holder. All letters and devices on this coin appear fully struck. The curved, white line in the right obverse field is some kind of reflection and is not on the coin.

Jaobler - That's a solid MS65-66 coin! Very, very nice!

I concur. Would want it in hand to place an exact grade considering the quality, but MS-65 minimum and would expect to grade it higher. That is a beautiful coin and would be proud to own it. Hmmm, and it was lost in the back of the safe? I think I would very much like to see the rest of the stuff in there! Jim

This cent is graded MS67RD and is in a PCI slab. The PCGS price guide shows a value of $4000 for this coin in this grade. My opinion is that my cent has darkened enough that it may only rate a RB color grade and a 67 is probably optimistic. I did send it in to NGC in 2006 for crossover and specified a minimum grade of MS65RB. NGC refused to cross it, saying that it did not deserve that grade because of "spotting". I'm thinking I should crack it out and send it in raw to PCGS. Should I take the chance? Decisions, decisions....

Don't trust PCI, that coin is about MS65.

Crack it out and send in. Just keep the PCI holder for reference. Your pics with the distinguishing marks/spotting will help with validity of the PCI slab.

Well, I did crack this cent out and submitted it to PCGS. I was pretty sure PCGS would not agree that it deserved the PCI grade of MS-67RD, but I did not expect a body bag. Nevertheless, the grade report on their website says this coin was rejected due to "Damage or Tooling". You win some and you lose some, but on this one I gotta say !

Jaobler,
If you have the time, it would be interesting to see the same type of photos with it out of the old PCI holder. I am curious why as to the "tooling - damage" BB by PCGS.
Thanks,
Jim

The grader yawned just before they encapsulated that beauty...shame the top TPG won't accept it The ANACS and NCS would more likely encapsulate it...but may not give you any better $$$ just enjoy that gorgeous red beauty. Net MS-65

WOW....I can't believe it. How about some pics out of the holder? I'm not seeing what PCGS is seeing. The 1909P is an extremely tough coin in MS red. It took me a long time to find one!

The only thing I see is maybe a tooling mark in front of Abes face?

That could be, I assumed that was on the holder.
