Bought this for £10 today in a local shop dealing in collectibles such as coins, postcards etc. I fell victim to the "oooh shiny" syndrome.

I don't normally collect outside of UK and British colonial, but this was very attractive. It was also obviously produced by The Royal Mint. The card inside states it was limited to 20,000 sets. Checking the internet I find that prices are not a lot more than what I paid. Given the low production, why is the price so low?

Does anyone know where I can find lists of non-British coin sets produced by The Royal Mint?

Price is low maybe because it's not a popular series to collect ?

Coin prices seem to be affected by 4 things:

1) Demand (popularity)
2) Supply (mintage and availability in shops and online)
3) Condition
4) Whether that particular series has a lot of fakes

well... technically, historically...

Anyway, I do believe the price of a set is mostly based on demand. I would have bought this set for £10, but I'm a tad weird sometimes. Apparently there aren't many Sri Lankan coin collectors out there, which is probably why the price is still low compared to the numbers produced.

Man...that is some pretty shiny!
I would have picked it up also at that price.
Good job
