They seem mighty proud of those albums. It would be nice, but definitely out of my range.

Wow!
No offence to any here, but I just don't see the appeal of owning a coin album that by itself is more expensive than most of the coins it holds.

There was a time I would disagree with you Finn, but I don't anymore. One US Type set can already take a life time, let alone the 15 or 16 foreign ones out there. There were a few that had coins that were almost impossible to get too (New Zealand I think was one). Wanted to post just in case someone was interested as the Mexican album is about as cheap as I have seen them ever go for, especially since most of the ones I have seen already are filled with most of the coins.

I could get a decent coin album and some 2x2s to fill it in after my own wishes and probably a lot of those coins, too, for that price. Let me know if they ever release a Norwegian or Dutch one, with a gold page, of course.

Mister Kairu, you mean you don't want to pay $9,000 for the NZ 1935 Crown? http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces24265.htmlI just skipped it in my set! One of the advantages to putting together type sets in 2x2's and 20 pocket pages! I can make it the way I want it!

Yeah that is the one, Matt. A little too steep for my budget (ever). I couldn't deal with there being that hole. But I have changed my views and I agree the album shouldn't be that expensive when you could get a number of coins instead.

I too would disagree ... try buying the coins for the Mexico type album, for the price of the album ....your welcome to try.
I just finished mine ... and it was much ...much more than that. Not counting the gold page.
If I did not have the Mexico album.. I would be bidding on it. It looks like it is in good shape.
They Australia album I want, but that one is high priced and damaged. The coins that are in it, are not worth the extra over what the album should cost.
If the Australia album was in the same shape as the Mexico album, and empty, I would pay $75 ... or more.

It's the 80/20 rule with most country sets... you can get 80% done for 20% of the price of a "complete" set. I probably got 50% of the Mexico type set, just as bycatch in larger lots that I was buying for other coins. I'm doing a custom 20 page deal for my Japanese coins, both because the Dansco doesn't have room for the commemoratives I want to display, and filling the Trade dollar hole would more than double the total cost of that set. Don't get me wrong, I am the last person to dictate how others should collect; expensive albums just aren't my thing.
