This coin is beat to heck, but I think it's a 1959, right? Edited by Copperwolf 11/02/2016 10:38 am

Thx! Yeah, I was thinking that it had silver as if it were a dime or quarter, forgetting that it's only in 42-45 that nickels had 35% silver, oops.

1959.
Most nickels produced from 1956-64 were from Denver, so the presence of a mintmark on the back is a good way to tell.
Also, the relief was lowered significantly in 1971, then again several times through the 80s and 90s.

The ABSENCE of a mint mark on the obverse proves it is a 1959 (but it looks like a 1959 anyway).

Thx. Yeah, in person it was harder to tell the date, but that's very helpful to know that it not having a mintmark proves its age.
