Since both the date and the mint mark on the 1927-D shows doubling to the east, I'll easily say that it is Machine Doubling.

I can't tell on the 1925-S

Both are heavily worn dies...no Machine Doubling, no RPM.

I will take better picture of the 25-S so you can see the large S that under the small s.
I thought the 27-D was a Die crack?
thanks CC & Vaslin!

Copper, I'd love to understand the difference between Machine Doubling and worn dies.

I assumed that since I saw the doubling (highlighted in purple) in the date and the mint mark that it would be Machine Doubling. Other than the 'mushy' appearance, how do you tell the difference between this and worn dies?

As always, thanks for your help!

That is the areas affected by worn dies. Toward the rim. Just an open and shut case of heavy die wear.
