Just found this tonight searching thru penny rolls.

Nice little error around the six in the date.

Is this a small date 1960D or large date 1960D?

Thanks.

Chuck, 1st it seems to have been a small date but hard to tell from everything going on.

2nd, there would seem to be a die chip running from about 2:00 down to about 7:00.

3rd, behind all of that, it seem that there is something else. I see a arc running thru the loop on the six that seems to tie into something besides the chip to the right of the tag end of the 6.

I will be interested in seeing what Coop, Bill and Chuck think on this one.

It's a die chip, which are rather common on 1960 small date cents.

Small date. Nice die break on the 6. No extra value for this. The small date Cents were plagued with the letters chipping. Even on EDS die state this happened. No wonder they replaced that with the Large date that year.

Thanks for the info!

Here is another photo of the obverse- I just noticed another die chip on the r of liberty

I did also notice that loop that seems to under the die chip by the six- it almost looks like a closed/upside down nine, although I can't imagine how that ever could have happened.

Any insight into this?

It's a broken piece out of the die. It happened to chip into a curved piece. That's all.
