I had been watching this auction all week waiting to bid at the last minute. I tried to bid from my phone and every time I would type in my bid, ebay would automatically change it back to $77 (the lowest minimum bid). I kept trying to change the my bid to $85 and ebay just kept changing my bid back to $77. Eventually the auction ended and someone else got a killer deal.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I've used my phone to bid quite a bit in the past and this has never happened before. Maybe ebay was having issues because I find the ending price to be pretty low for that coin.

If you bid 85$ as your "max" the coin would be shown with only the opening bid of 77$ If you were the only bidder. The additional amount of your bid (8$) would be held in proxy and used as other bidders bid on the item. Your max bid would only have been used if you would have been outbid.

Did you hit the "confirm" bid button?

If this is not what happened then I guess ebay was having problems.

I actually couldn't even get to the "confirm" part. Every time I would key in $85, it would wipe out that number and change it to $77 automatically. I've been using ebay for over 15 years and this is the first time something like that has happened. I just found it odd, I would have expected that coin to sell for more than $76 so I thought maybe I wasn't the only person who couldn't bid.

Must have been something weird going on with the ebay mobile site.

Not the first time it has been weird and definitely won't be the last.

Incidents like this definitely don't bode well for sellers of auction items!

Not sure why that happened ....

I agree ...that was a nice coin .. at a good price.

I would have bought that ...then busted it out for my
capital coin holder.

Me too. That is one of the 9 remaining coins I need for my early Washington set.
Someone got a heck of a deal.

There were widespread issues today (that are still ongoing for some) and ebay is aware - you were not the only person.
