The lighting might be looking worse than it is.
But it does look cleaned. But it does have some killer detail ...
A coin like this should be bought very cheap, then spend a few years trying to get it to tone.

Thanks for the replies, @gr58 what are the best practices for getting a coin 'to tone'?

Appears the cleaning involved mechanical polishing as opposed to dipping only. If you wanted to Retone it wrap it in pulp paper and set it on the window sill for many month. This cleaning will always be apparent, however.

If you want toning in a hurry,
-Take it out in the garden and stamp it into the ground with your heel a few times. -Put it in a sockful of coins and slosh them around for about an hour. -Blowtorch it.
This will break the polish and greatly improve a coin's appearance, though it will drop the grade. Try it on a few cull polished coins and see if you like the results.

Thanks for the replies. I have to say as I troll around the net looking at different coins, to me the cleaned coins look better. Some of the older coins that haven't been cleaned are just darn ugly.

The ugly ones are worth a lot more money.

Some of the most desirable CC Morgans come from the Redfield collection. They owe their distinctive appearance to a combination of storage in bad cardboard and exploded jars of peaches. Redfield was not particularly careful with his giant hoard. http://www.carsoncitycoinclub.com/p...-the_Man.pdfHere's a example of what being shoveled down a coal chute, exposure to peach juice and storage on high sulfur paperboard does to a coin's value. And this is a cheap one. Such ugliness is yours for only $1000. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1891-CC-1-P...AOSwAuZX1OAv
