M means it's a follis, underneath looks like CON for Constantinople mint...

Someones going to know the ruler...maybe Justin and Sophie? I am sure there were quite a few pairs who appeared on this coinage though...

#sits back and waits for the pro's to turn up.

Hello, David UK.
In my attempt to classify, it seemed to me to be AE Follis of Heraclius.
SEAR: 845
Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine.
But I'm not sure...
I'll look for Justin and Sophie.
Thank you very much!
Paulo

You could be right with Heraclius but Sear845 seems to have a different mint mark.

There are a couple of people here who know Byzantines well who should be able to give you an accurate attribution.

It is Heraclius but I believe it's Sear # 805, from Constantinople mint. The date is worn so I can't make it out
