it weighs 1.5 grams more than it should. It is not magnetic as far a fridge magnet will not pick it up or affect it in any way.

the least couple of weeks. I have checked 3 from the 1990s and 2 from the 1800s. the ones I checked had all been coated some how. I just scratched the rim edge. under this metal coating was the proper metal. hope your is real.

I tried scratching it with an exacto knife and it doesn't seem to be coated, but I am not an expert.

I usually test these with an XRF. At 2.65 grams, it could be plated or it could be a number of other planchet types. I would be happy to test your coin (I have done so for others here at CCF - go ahead and ask here for your own peace of mind). The test is free - you just pay for the shipping. Since you are a new member - I'll send you a PM.

Please tell us that you scratched the edge of the coin, and not the faces on either side?

It appears to be slightly larger. I see bubbles on the obverse.

1991 pennies are supposed to be 12-sided.

rshpee. Can't definitively answer your question, but could be a nice find. You can trust SPP to do a XRF and send back to you.

I would bet it's been coated/plated...
an neat piece though, and I'd hold onto it - just for fun.
