Hello, I recently read about collectable serial numbers and am fascinated by the topic. However I am not sure if this serial number is interesting or not?

MF 48558555

It has the repeating numbers and 4 does not fit the pattern. Thanks to anyone who knows.

Not really. There are many interesting serial number combinations that have value, but they all have an obvious symmetry that is quickly picked up by the eye. If you search the files on the CCF, you will find many discussions of the different types of so-called "fancy" serial numbers - radars, repeaters, ladders, solids and many others.

Your note might have had a minimal premium if it had read, for example, 48554855 or perhaps 85558555, but even these would fetch little.

Welcome to CCF.

The note caught your eye, so interesting might be a good way to explain it.

Now, valuable, that's a different subject. We see countless "interesting" serial numbers here at CCF, and most of them are one, two, or even three serials numbers off from be valuable. When you get time, visit Cool Serial Numbers web site to get an idea what serials numbers go beyond interesting.

Could potentially be an interesting note, but probably wouldn't sell for more than $15.

If the 4 was a 5 and it was positioned just after the 1st 8 then you would have a true repeater ... but as it is now, it is worth Face Value only.
