In another thread ("In Praise of The Celator...and VCoins) I posted links to online editions of The Celator.
I'd be remiss if I didn't give a shout-out to the founder of The Celator, my fellow Missourian Wayne G. Sayles. Sayles is perhaps the premier and most ardent defender of our hobby. At a time when there are concerted efforts by some to make the collecting of ancient and medieval coins more and more difficult, and to tighten import restrictions, Sayles has led the effort to resist and reduce these pressures - though with mixed results, it seems. As president and founder of the Ancient Coin Collectors' Guild, Sayles has fought the good fight and done such great work on our behalves. It's good to know this guy has our backs.
In addition to giving numerous lectures and writing more than 200 informative articles about ancient coins over the years in publications like the "Journal of the Society for Ancient Numismatics" and The Celator (in which he continued to have a monthly column, "Through the Looking Glass," long after turning over the reins of the publication to Kerry Wetterstrom), Sayles has authored these books - each of which is a great read:
"Turkoman Figural Bronze Coins and Their Iconography" (with William F. Spengler)
"Ancient Coin Collecting"
"Classical Deception"
"Ancient Coin Collecting II: Numismatic Art of the Greek World"
"Ancient Coin Collecting III: The Roman World - Politics and Propaganda"
"Ancient Coin Collecting IV: Roman Provincial Coins"
"Ancient Coin Collecting V: The Romaion/Byzantine Culture"
"Ancient Coin Collecting VI: Non-Classical Cultures" (why this was not number one in the series I will never understand

)
In addition, he wrote the exhibition catalog for the "Griner Collection of Ancient Coins at Ball State University," as well as coin collecting articles for Encyclopaedia Britannica, and he has edited and published several numismatic monographs by other authors. The list of his numismatic memberships and awards is extensive.
Based on the limited correspondence I've had with him over the years (I've purchased a few coins from him - there simply is no more trustworthy dealer to buy from, anywhere), I can state that he is also simply a genuinely nice fellow.
For those who may be interested, Sayles' blog on ancient coins is here:
