Added another Proof dollar to my Dansco Commemorative Dollar Albums. This is one of those cases where it doesn't look hard when starting the set .. but reality sinks in .. and WOW .. that is a lot of coins needed to complete the set. Dansco has three albums for this set. they have not put out the forth yet. The three albums has labels for 138 coins. I am at 106 ... needing 32 more. Today a 2002 Salt Lake city came in.

Also .. Looking for opinions .. The albums has spots for two of each coin, three for the 1983/1984 coins. What are opinions on putting both coins obverse side up, or one obverse up and one reverse side up. Here is a example of both. Salt Lake City - Obverse sides up First in flight - one Obverse and one reverse.

Very nice! Quote: What are opinions on putting both coins obverse side up, or one obverse up and one reverse side up. For some reason, my particular brand of OCD prevents me from alternating obverse/reverse. I think it is because I like to look at both sides of the pages, not just the side that faces up on the right. While alternating obverse/reverse is a necessity for folders, albums are "better than that." Just my opinion.

Another nice addition to your collection! Quote: What are opinions on putting both coins obverse side up, or one obverse up and one reverse side up. I think it depends on how you look at your set. If you enjoy comparing the strike and visual aesthetics of each coin's design in proof vs. uncirculated, then having the same sides display side-by-side is the way to go. If you prefer to see the coin "as a whole" to get a sense of its overall design, then mixing the sides presented is preferable. Looking at it from a different perspective. I think non-commemorative coin collectors and / or those who do not collect at all might appreciate comparing each side proof vs. uncirculated, so, if you show your collection with some frequency, presenting it with matching sides might be your best bet.

Thank you for your replies.
I am not set on which way to put the coins into the album
After reading your replies .. I am thinking both obverse sides up will be the way I go.

Quote: I am thinking both obverse sides up... That gets my vote too. Nice addition, GR58.

The first hole is the obverse, the second hole is the reverse. That is how I did my State Quarters, national parks quarters, 2009 Lincolns, and 2004-2005 Jefferson's. HOWEVER, my from roll hunting Canadian coin albums are all obverse even though they put the date on the reverse

Congrats on only 32 to go GR58! 138 is a lot of coins to track down. Looks awesome! As far as obverse - reverse I have that same problem with my Native $1. P-D-S and for the last 3 years the enhanced uncirculated added to the list.

Thanks Debrajc ... I could make a bigger dent in the 32 I still need, but for me to get the best price I try to get them when they come into the local shops. At some point I will take some funds and buy some off ebay .... --------------- I understand about the Sac's and for me all my modern sets. I have been holding off buying new mint and proof set because most times the sets drop a lot in price ... a couple years into the after market. Because of that I don't really keep up on the more current years coins.

GR58
Man, you are everywhere. I talk to you on the Classic Coin Forum and find you here as well. Buck is here as well. I showed up here to discuss the 1916 gold trio. I do really like the commemorative coins preferring the older ones myself. GR58 you are putting some nice sets together. Where do you find to stash all these coins? I have a safe deposit box that is getting heavy. I won't keep them at home.....too dangerous I think. This hobby is getting out of control since I am not a big spender except for these darn coins. Maybe I have OCD like Buck, but have severe buyer's remorse often for spending money on money.

Terry8835 ... "Thanks for noticing" .... Eeyore I collect coins ...all coins. I do have a classic commemorative type album started, but for commemorative coins my passion is modern dollars. I also have Mexico and Canadian and ancient type albums. Storage is always a problem ...... As seen in this recent post http://goccf.com/t/274601
