I am larmidd3, a new member. I started collecting 11 years ago when my twin grandsons were born. I purchased each of them a 2005 proof set, and promised them one every Christmas until they reached 18 years old. Well now I have 7 grandchildren, oops. Each child has a you S Mint storage box to store their collection. All sets are in the origin. How much is the value affected by the box?al boxes and all are in good like new shape

proof sets have not been a good investment, most years the prices for them
have gone down in value ...from issue price. The silver sets hold their value
better than clad sets.

Some years are better than others. I think 2012 is a good year and 2008
a little better than the others.

I was doing the same thing for my grandkids ...but ended up buying them
a silver eagle each. I bought a Dansco album to put them in.

My dad bought me a silver proof set for my birth year (2000), which I no longer have the box for. Other than that, I haven't invested in them for the reasons stated by GR58. I don't think the boxes should affect the value much, though.

I was lucky enough to get a 2012 silver proof set at issue price back when the mint was selling them (my first "big" purchase). Proof sets are generally a bad investment, but the both 2012 sets are good dates and I think the 1995 silver proof set is doing well. I do not think that the original box (or lack of) will hurt the value of the set. If you need to, you can always order a replacement from ebay.

also, to CCF!

and Congrats on the 7 Grand babies!
Still waiting on my first.
As others have mentioned proof sets generally have not preformed well value wise but I still buy them every year.
