Looking for any information about this Aethelred penny coin.
Tried my best to look up any information even going to coinage of Aethelred but none seem to match.
Would it be a copy or a coin that was never recorded before?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

At first glance and without having the British Museum catalogue to hand, it seems to be the 'First Hand Type' BMC IIa.

What is the weight in g and the diameter in mm ?

Thanks for your help in relation to the coin. Will do my best to have the coin weighed as soon as possible and will have it measured for you also.

@murfsnr, first welcome to CCF!

Second, it looks to me like you have a penny of Aethelred II (978-1016 AD). The rev of the coin (which you have posted upside down), shows the hand of God descending from a cloud is positioned between an Alpha and an Omega. The rev inscription on your coin doesn't match the plate coin in my Spink, so I'm a little concerned about your coin. Can you tell us where you got this piece?

Here is an example of a recent sale of this coin:

The attribution is Spink 1144 and BMC IIa as Pertinax noted previously.

Just an update, the coin weight is 1.5 grams and its not an exact round coin but the best I can make out is that it is 19.5mm.
Picked the coin up in an estate sale but I agree the inscription does not really match any other coin exactly.
If it is a fake it is a good one.

Reverse is AELFRIC M-O HVNTAN = AElfric (moneyer) Huntanscir (i.e. Huntingdon)

This particular reverse mint / moneyer inscription is one of several cited in the cataloging of the Ipswich hoard of AEthelred II coinage.

The quality of work produced by the various minting efforts is extremely variable, ranging from "really nicely done" to "makes barbarous imitative Roman coins look professional."

Weight/diameter are reasonably close. Needs an expert opinion/authentication.
