Hi,
I was trying to do some research on this coin before posting, but couldn't find much.
I found this 1954-S LWC with some metal connecting the mintmark to the date. There are also some other features represented in the close-up pics I took.
Anyway, I am no expert, but any help in identifying what happened to the coin is much appreciated.
I tried posting this earlier, but there was no response. I figured it was because of the holiday.
Thanks!

A few things to keep in mind about the wheat cents from the 1950's.
1. They over used the die past normal retirement. That leaves a lot of coins that look pretty ugly with the breaking down of the dies.
2. In the later die states there are many hundreds of thousands of examples with coins that have die wear issues. The breaking down on the head, LIBERTY, Dates/mint marks, die cracks all over them. The die breakdown on the wheat areas. They are very large in number. So it is nothing to see different examples of breakdown on one or several areas on these coins.
So nothing surprises me on these anymore. I found one with 9 different die cracks on just the head:

The image goes to 8, but the ninth one is on the collar of the shirt.
To me the varieties are a lot more interesting. The doubled dies and RPMs are my focus.

Some of the date issues, especially the 5 appearing to connect to the MM, may just be disturbed metal from coincidental circulation hits.
