I am new to coin collecting, so please forgive my ignorance. I believe I have a couple of error coins, but I am new at this forum and do not know how to post a photo yet. One is a 2001 Quarter. The NORTH on NORTH CAROLINA is missing on the back and the 17 on 1789 is barely visible with magnification. The TED on UNITED, LI on LIBERTY, and the QUA on QUARTER are are either missing or barely visible under magnification on the front. The rim is intact and unworn. Does anyone have something like this? I have taken photos as jpeg and enhanced photos in word format. I can e-mail to anyone that wants to view the quarter.

What you have is a fairly common type of error. he coin is called a "struck through" error. Usually when details are missing like that, the coin was struck through a layer of grease. The grease fills the recesses of the die and consequently the detail does not show up on a finished coin.

This is the likely scenario based upon your description.

While these do not command much of a premium in general, your coin with that much detail missing would have a slight value above what a normal coin would sell for.

Thanks,
Bill
