Hey there. Glad to have found this forum. I've been collecting US and non-US coins for a few decades since I was a kid. I'm a history buff and I love seeing past 150 years or so through what was in people's pockets at the time. I see from some previous posts that some post an initial question here instead of in a forum, so here's a question. One of the challenges for me with non-US is the identification, especially when it's not the Western alphabet and the images on the coin aren't standard. I have tried on and off for the better part of a decade to identify this Arabic coin. Any ideas?

January1May beat me to it. Nice coin. I've got a jar of arabic / asian coins waiting for a rainy day to be identified. Looks like it might be raining today in Ohio.
Anyway, welcome to the forum!

to CCF! In general, questions asked in the various sections (e.g. world coins) get the most views and best answers. We prefer just the intro here.

to the Community! Quote: I see from some previous posts that some post an initial question here instead of in a forum, so here's a question. It is preferred they be asked in the appropriate forum, but it is no big deal since we can move posts to where they are better served. With that being said, I moved this post to the appropriate forum for the proper attention.

to CCF! If you have a few other coins for identification, post them in World Coins The fun part is, I can't read Arabic either. I just know the digits (well, technically, only most of them, but this case was lucky), so I know what to write in the Numista search bar (in this case, "2.5 1393") to get the right result (IIRC, that particular search only gave me the one type). Ironically, I never expected to beat anyone to this - I was distracted for several hours soon after seeing the thread, and made the post a good deal later than I intended originally. (But it was indeed a matter of maybe five minutes once I started.) And believe me, 20th century Arabic isn't such a big problem, especially now that Numista is a thing. The real problem is German states in lower grades, anything to do with Indian states (except for a few late types copying British India coinage), and just about anything medieval (ancients are often also tricky, but at least they tend to mention the city directly in recognizable letters).
