Can anybody tell me what the three minuscule lettres are on the basis of the neck of the queen ?
Are it the initials of the coin designer of that side of the coin
I know the Britannia side is designed by Nathan but not who did the queen effigy since I seem to find three or four designers for the queen's side of the coin

The letters are IRB, for Ian Rank-Broadley, the man who designed the new (4th) effigy of Elizabeth.

1st effigy - used 1953-1968, by Mary Gillick, featured Elizabeth with ribboned crown.

2nd effigy - used 1968-1984, by Arnold Machin, featured Elizabeth with regal tiara.

3rd effigy - used 1985-1997, by Raphael Maklouf, featured Elizabeth with St. Andrews' crown.

4th effigy - used 1998-date, by Ian Rank-Broadley, features a mature Elizabeth with regal tiara.

Looking more carefully at your picture, the coin in question is the 3rd effigy, which would have RDM.

The question was raised on a German forum and even under
10 X magnifications it was either PDM or RDM
