I purchased a Morgan silver dollar direct from a online coin dealer for $150.00 and paid for the coin using PayPal. Two or three days after the purchase I get an email noting that the coin has shipped, but there was no tracking information in the email. Two weeks later after the coin did not arrive I contacted the dealer asking about the coin and tracking information. The coin was shipped first class with tracking. Per the tracking the coin was delivered in or at my mail box on 11/18/16. I have not received the coin. I am going to contact the post office and file a claim and talk to my mailman. I do not have much hope of finding the coin. If the coin can not be located, who is responsible? The dealer has tracking that the coin was delivered, but I do have a coin. With the tracking saying the dealer did his part, the dealer is automatically exonerated. If you get a refund, it is completely out of his kindness.

This has happened to another one of our members just recently . It seems to be very rare but it does happen , If the tracking says it was delivered ,chances are it went to another address similar to yours . A mistake by the postman . Talk to your postman maybe he or she will remember the package and who received it .

Depending on how secure your mailbox is, there's a chance someone lifted it after it was delivered and before you went to pick it up.
At least, it's an increasingly common occurrence in my area, and it's making me increasingly nervous about buying anything online. We have a good mail carrier who takes care of our packages, but he doesn't work every day and if it comes by UPS, FedEx or some other third party, all bets are off.

Sorry to hear this.. It's the P.O. fault. File a claim, they'll speak to the mail carrier who delivered the parcel. It's likely He/she will not even remember but of course will claim they delivered it to your box. You'll get a call back grom the P.O. in a few days, they'll give some lip service and then they'll apologize for losing your package. And that's it. How do I know this? Because it's happened to me 3 times in the last year. Each time it was a coin or coins from ebay. Each time there was tracking showing "delivered in mailbox". The first time I pleaded with the seller for assistance and out of the kindness of his heart he refunded my money. The 2nd time I asked ebay to step in and they did nothing since tracking showed "delivered in mailbox" The 3rd time my wife had to play detective and found out our mail carrier had a history of mis-delivering my buildings mail to a building one avenue away. Bith buildings have identical numbers and apartment numbers but different street names. My wife went there and found the 2nd and 3rd parcel were delivered to someone with my apt number in a totally different building! The 1st parcel was never found.

I used to have my items sent to my work place, knowing either myself or a co-worker would be there during all business hours (we have a small office).

I decided to check on another coin that I recently ordered on ebay. The Kennedy 1964 in the photo was delivered on 11/25/16 and I do not have the coin. It appears that someone is stealing the coins out of my mail. It really hurt to lose this toned Kennedy as it was for my type set.

Looks like I need a Surveillance Security Camera on my outdoor mailbox. Anyone have a recommendation for a camera?

This can happen when you just have tracking or delivery confirmation. If it doesn't require a signature and it gets gets recorded as delivered that is pretty much the end of it as far as the seller and post office are concerned. Even if it is insured, the post office washes their hands of it because "It was delivered".

When in doubt never ever use the government to provide any service if you value that service.
If the government was in charge of the Sahara Desert they'd be out of sand within the week.
If possible always get your coins sent FedEx or the like, in particular if your package needs to cross an international border. I had coins show up from Germany after 6 months wait once, way past the point where I got my refund.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. The item was located at the post office. It was a storage box and too large to fit into the mail box. The package showed "delivered" so PayPal, ebay and the seller were off the hook. When they found it at the post office I asked how the tracking showed delivered when it obviously was not. She said especially through the Holidays that sometimes the carriers would just go ahead and scan everything on the truck in the morning as "delivered" so it didn't slow them down during the day. Especially the temp drivers. And before I could even respond she said..."Yes, I know they are not suppose to do it like that but they do anyway when they are busy". So it may have gotten taken or delivered to the wrong address but you might still check at the post office to be sure. Good Luck! I now use a UPS Store mail box and have had zero problems.

Your sellers should be providing you with the tracking numbers so you know when it's getting to your house.

I've had the same issues with missing mail that tracked as delivered. There's not much that can be done if it's uninsured and no delivery signature is required especially if there is theft. There is a form to open a lost mail search https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm I've actually had some luck using this when there was a tracking number and the mail was placed in the wrong PO Box. USPS problems always get worse this time of year.

Yes, at least then you can see what day it will be delivered and if you have a reliable mail-person you will even have an approximate time. Are you missing other mail that you know of? Who knows you are buying coins?
