I'm trying to collect UNC coins and this seller has almost every year in "Brilliant Uncirculated" condition.

So I spent nearly $200+ to fill every year and when I received the coins...a lot of them had small fingerprints on them.

Isn't it a cardinal rule to not have fingerprints on coins? Or am I the only one who follows that rule? I would never sell a coin with a fingerprint on it and call it UNC

Should I return all the coins or would I be a p-i-t-a for the customer?

Send them back.
Unless you could see the prints on the images in the listing or that the seller stated that they had fingerprints on them you are well within your rights to return these.
Nobody wants Gem coins with prints all over them

If the description didn't say anything about fingerprints and you couldn't see them on the photos, I would send them back.

If you don't, everytime you look at your collection you're going to get angry!

Most e bay sellers have a return within so many days. If I don't like a coin I purchased I return saying to the seller that it doesn't fit in my collection most sellers are ok with it some block you from bidding there site again that's ok that's there choice.

But also in defence of the seller I have mint state graded coins that have finger prints on them with no mention of it on the holders.

You can find tons of BU coins with fingerprints even straight from the mint. I don't think it's right to return something like this unless they used stock photos and didn't mention it. If they are undoctored photos of the actual coins or it was mentioned in the description you should accept the loss and pay better attention. A finger print certainly doesn't mean not uncirculated. Of course if they have a return policy anyways just follow it.

I am amazed that in a sealed mint bag of Canadian 1-cent coins ($60 face), 5-8% of the coins will be marred by fingerprints. Back in the day, mint worked spread newly struck coins on belts by their bare hands, to look for defects and spread the load out on the belts and riddler (vibrating screen to collect undersize fragments).

I have encapsulated coins in the original mint capsules with fingerprints!

For ebay there is no straight answer because "it depends". Did the photos show the fingerprints? Does the seller allow returns? If you are unhappy then definitely work with seller to try and resolve.

Most sellers are very amicable and open to discussion of the coins. Why not try that approach first?

I have a requested a refund and he has agreed.

The thing is...I specifically asked the seller to send me coins with no fingerprints on them. They weren't even old coins, the majority were from the 2000s.

When I got even a brand new 2016 50 Cent coin with a fingerprint smudge on it, no way. And a lot of the 1970s dimes were circulated (not even lightly).

-----

On the other hand, I made a recent purchase from someone here on CCF. I mentioned, please get me the coins with the least bag marks, toning and no fingerprints. And the coins were amazing!

Guess you gotta buy from a passionate coin collector to get the best quality.

Although sellers should share the same passion about describing and picturing a low value coin as a higher value coin, it is often not the case.

If a coin sells for a dollar or two, or even $20 depending on the seller, much less time is probably given to those lower value coins.

Its simply a matter of time in looking over what may be a huge inventory and spending far less time with lesser valued items. I'm not saying that excuses the fact, but it is probably one of the reasons lower valued coins do not get nearly as much attention from a seller, and the bigger the seller, the less time they have for each lot.

Glad it worked out for you Wilson.

I too have received many coins over the years with fingerprints even straight from the mint.
