Anyone who thinks ebay's days are numbered have never looked up their quarterly finacials. ebay makes money hand over fist every quarter and has piles of cash at its disposal. None of its competitors in the second hand online market come even close to them in market share, and many of them such as Etsy are not even profitable. ebay will be around for a long long long time, its about time they start paying dividends to their shareholders.

I went back and reread the ebay Bucks terms and conditions and the only exclusion I could find regarding REDEMPTIONS was in section 5.5 where it refers to ebay bucks "cannot be redeemed for ebay gift cards in the gift cards category".

As far as EARNING ebay bucks goes you cannot earn bucks for purchases of bullion in the bullion category.

If they have rewritten the rules regarding additional redemption exclusions they have not posted them to the most recent T&C.....(yet!).

It''s a crazy company where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and neither hand has no idea what the brain is doing!

Ok, here's a link to their terms and conditions page for ebay bucks.

Notice it says that it's only excluding bullion from within the Coins and Paper Money category.

Unfortunately, that is not what their payment checkout software is enforcing and it's certainly not what their customer service people are understanding.

I just got off the horn with ebay Customer Service and reviewed the situation regarding not being able to apply eBucks for Coins and Currency. The rep and I reviewed the T&C regarding coins and currency and both are acceptable to be purchased with eBucks. (Items listed in the bullion category are excluded as stated in the T&C.)

The CS rep offered up that they are currently having "some technical issues regarding application of ebay eBucks for certain items and hope to have the problem resolved soon".

We shall see!

Maybe whoever was responsible for flipping the switch on Jan 1st didn't fully understand the coin category and set the system incorrectly. Hopefully, that's the case and things will go back to the way they were regarding coins being a qualifying ebay bucks purchase.

It took some fanangling, but I was able to buy $50 worth of coins with my ebay bucks just now. Had to manually enter the promo code at checkout.

Interesting. I had tried that as well. Perhaps they fixed it on their end. Maybe I'll buy another coin and try again

Breaking news - they will be changing the name to either "Sawbucks" or ebay 50 cent pieces (or is it half dollars?). I wouldn't know.

I was unable to use ebay Bucks for a coin purchase.

The rep told me that was a current change to the rules.

The rep didn't know why the change was made and agreed it didn't make sense that you earned Bucks for a coin purchase but couldn't use them for a coin purchase.

So is this a mistake or a new rule?

I bought a couple of silver rounds last night with ebay Bucks, with no issue.

Maybe ebay is blocking using them for purchasing bullion, just as you don't get them for buying bullion?

No my denied coin purchase was not in the bullion category.

I guess I'll try again on my next purchase.

I haven't had any issues with redeeming the Ebucks this month. Of course they were earned during the 2% days.

I think they got the bug worked out by now.

I was able to use mine several days ago and already have my item.
