I sent to ngc a 1943 double die as shown in cherry pickers book.and they sent it back as a 1943 in xf 45. They will not give a error on this double die. It has the same bulbis foot on the 9 and the liberty is double.

It's probably not a doubled die. What you are talking about is a common anomaly on 1943 cents due to die wear.

The picture makes it all clear. There is no doubt, even if you had not placed the Cherrypicker's guide reference there that this is a doubled die. I am thrilled that you were able to post a picture! I am not sure how NGC operates their variety atributions but you may have to specifically request that it be labeled as a variety as seen in the CPG.

Contact them and see what they will do in this case. It is without question a doubled die.

Thanks,
Bill

Did you check that you wanted to say it's a double die? If you don't then they'll just grade it normally.

the dealer that sent it in sad 1943/43 DDO.i think they only do the better and more common errors.i know anacs will grade it.looks like I got 2 coins to send to anacs.don't like them now they must clean coin with something that hurts the copper penny because it comes back as cleaned.this happen on a 1972 DDO die 1

Yes ANACS will grade and attribute all of the varieties in th CPG- at least that is what I was told at the MSNS show last year. They will designate it as a DDO, but for the FS numbers I think you have to pay the "research" fee of 5 dollars- on top of the extra 5 dollars for the DDO attribution . I sent a DDR SMS Kennedy half to them and they gave it the DDR, but not the numbers- cause I didn't pay the research fee ( I knew this when I sent them). Personally , I like their service (a little slow- but who isn't) but then I don't normally send anything for grading, it was more of a test of my skills, and to get a few needed attributions. Nice find by the way ! I cannot WAIT for the new CPG !!

It bothers a variety coin nut like me that they would call this a minor DDO. It is in the CherryPickers' Guide and it is one of the major ones for that year. Actually, It is considered THE major one for that year. It is also probably the strongest ClassVI DDO known for the series of Lincoln cents.

Strange that they don't give this coin the due it is entitled to. Its a nice coin!
