US Mint - This b-roll from the U.S. Mint in West Point shows "auto tuber" robots packaging the Walking Liberty Centennial Gold and American Eagle Silver.

Kinda cool except that I can't see those soft gold halves surviving being dropped into tubes. I didn't even know they were put IN tubes....

Treated more like the bullion ASE's

It looks like they are being treated exactly like the BU Gold Buffalos. Knowing (or at least believing) that even the Uncirculated ASEs "undergo a specialized minting process, which begins by manually feeding burnished coin blanks into presses fitted with special dies", I am astonished that these special, low mintage coins are being machine handled and tubed and boxed before going into individual capsules and special boxes. It feels like a slap in the face from a beautiful woman just because you said "hello".

My son-in-law is a professional mechatronic engineer.
He would have had fun working out the industrial robotic control for that lot!

I had no idea the gold halves were dropped in tubes first either.

Thanks for posting!

Re-watching that video, I think that it was misleading. The video showed the picture of the gold WLH, but the machine that running had a screen which said 22K gold bullion and displays a picture of the gold eagles.
I think that will explain everybody's bewilderment about the gold being tubed.
