I'm not a big time currency collector, but I saw one of these on the bay a while back. How rare are they, and does anyone have one?

I just logged on this morning and saw your question.
Arlington, Texas had 2 national banks
Citizens National Bank of Arlington charter # 5806
Arlington National Bank charter #7345

I searched the Heritage archives and found plenty of Arlington Nationals....problem is none of them are from Arlington Texas. There was Arlington Georgia, Arlington South Dakota, Arlington Iowa, Arlington Massachusetts, and Arlington Washington DC....but no Texas notes. I do not have a paid census, and would be curious to know how many survivors are out there.

Notes from both banks must be scarce/rare as neither Heritage or Lyn Knight has handled the sale of any.
Charter #5806 was in business for 14 years (1901 to 1915) and total circulation was $215,250. Kelly census shows 4 notes reported: 2 $20 Brown Backs, 1 Series 1882 $10 Date Back and a Series 1882 $20 Date Back. The two Date Backs are held in the Philpott/Moody Foundation.
Charter #7345 was in business 15 years (1904 to 1919) with total circulation of $338,350. Kelly census shows 4 notes reported: 2 $10 Series 1902 Date Backs, 1 $20 Series 1902 Date Back and finally 1 Series 1902 $20 Plain Back
I believe Texas is one of the more popular states to collect when it comes to national bank notes.

Wow MV, great information, I'm impressed! First time I've been on the currency board, just as the coins, tons of knowledge & folks much smarter than me. I guess I'll just keep my eyes pealed.

I should have mentioned that when it comes to nationals: you can't be too fussy about condition especially when there aren't many notes to begin with.
For example, if you found a Series 1902 $10 Date Back from Charter #7345 missing a corner and somewhat dirty in your price range you would have to decide do I buy this note now and have an example or wait for a better one to come along? The wait for another could take years.
On the other hand if we were discussing a big city bank with several notes reported I see no reason to settle for a damaged one if there are undamaged ones available.

I was born and raised in Arlington, but I'd take anything that I could get. I'm not a real big currency collector, I've just accumulated some over the years. I don't even remember when I saw this particular note, heck I didn't even know that they existed, for Arlington was such a small town way back when. Thanks again for all you knowledge & help. Regards
