I am new to this and looking at investing in a group of 9 $500 bills with sequential serial numbers. How much if anything does having the group of bills together add to their value? Thanks for your help.

As a collector I don't consider what I get to be an investment. So ... I wouldn't encourage you to look at that purchase as some kind of money making opportunity because you just never know. I do believe that old notes with sequential numbers are worth a bit more than those without. But there's a lot to consider, like condition and rarity. If you have pics or any more information, that would be helpful.

Welcome to CCF Dan.
I will echo what Buddy said and add, if you have questions or concerns please help us with needed information like Series (date on notes), Serial numbers including prefix and suffix letters, and possibly the condition of the notes. Photographs or scans would answer almost everything. It's not too often that large denomination consecutive notes come up for sale and/or auction.

The Percentage of notaphilic value (banknote version of 'numismatic') is tiny, relative to sequential numbers with One Dollar notes. With inflation, the $500 notes are almost certain to loose their value over time. That is despite the fact that sequential $500 notes would be quite rare. It may work out quite well in favor of $500 notes, only if their condition is uncirculated, or close to that condition. It becomes really necessary that you understand the high face value collector market in much detail. I have to confess, I don't. For most of us, better to stick with sequential number One Dollar notes, where the percentage premium is much greater, and you don't have to worry about inflation.

Thanks for the scans.
New York (B) and Chicago (G) had the most, by far, of all the districts printed for this series and denomination.
I still do not see any advantage having consecutive examples. These notes appear to have some sort of mild discoloration and handling marks in the upper right area, and the upper margins are a little tight. I would use caution and try to discourage you from purchasing all nine of them. Just my humble opinion.

I just looked around for similar notes for sale and the premium ranges from $600 to $800. (I only looked at two sites.)
Since I don't collect these, the only way I would buy them is if I could get them for a really low premium -- less than half of the 'for sale' premium. Even then, I'd have to think long and hard about it.

Buddy - All $500 notes are going to carry a similar premium (or higher) depending on the grade. I think the point here is that the added value of having consecutive serial numbers (especially raw) in the $500 series is essentially nothing. And I'd bet even certified in any grade there would be no premium over non-consecutive notes.

danlk66, Nice you came across and hope you grab them at a fair price. However, not knowing any of this subject related to high denomination notes and regardless of sequential notes below is reality CHECK on ebay for prices. I would look at these SOLD listing like so below WHERE one is better and the other IS worse condition and sold on the bay. ebay item numbers 142141961345 Unc note 131967534566 Circulated Note YOUR note is in between. ebay is a better source for guestimates. Best wishes and good luck.

I would think that down the road there would not be many collectors interested in 9 consecutive notes. A dealer maybe but most collectors are going to only want one of these...not 9 imho. So I would not pay a big premium on them if it were me.
