In my main storage space for a good bulk of my coins I've been using my cat's CLEAN litter. I use small canvas bags
4''x 6'' (available at some craft stores) filled with the litter and placed about 5 bags in storage area . I started this about 2 years ago , so far so good . It's sort of
'' THE CATS MEOW '' !

OK, but rather messy.

Just don't let the cat near that setup.
Cat urine is corrosive.

I actually doubt it works - certainly not as well as silica. The amount of atmospheric moisture absorbed by cat litter is pretty small or nobody could keep cats in damp climates.

The bags come with pull string ties ,so there's no mess . My cat can't get to the storage area ,it's closed off and locked .

We call this stuff "Kitty Litter" here in Aus and this stuff is super versatile and has a hundred and one uses.
I think that it would work just fine, It is Far better than nothing and is super cheap as well.

Never thought of that use for kitty litter T-Bop.

But we do have a bag in the warehouse for spills so it makes sense.

Just make sure that the bags that contain the kitty litter don't break or leak. The dried, purified clay of which some litter materials are made,
happen to be very abrasive.

OT. If you live in snowy or icy climates, you might want to keep some in your auto. It is abrasive enough to give traction to tires on ice, and won't rust out the auto if the bag leaks.

Plus your coins will smell fresh!! LOL.

Btw, avoid clay (scoop able) litter for icy roads. Meltoff turns the stuff into soupy goo that sticks to EVERYTHING!

That is besides the clay settling in the invert of under the road storm water piping, where the drainage gradient is less than 1 in 200 !

(Sorry, I used to design storm water drainage systems.)
