So I bought my first 3CN. As I mentioned earlier this year I am starting a 3CN 3CS and a 2 Cent collection.

I am a newbie to these coins. Let me know what you think the grade is and how much you would have paid for it.

I will then reveal what I paid and either feel good or foolish.

Hi Ken,
It would be better if the photos were bigger, so we could see the 'III' in more detail. Still, I'd call this F-12. It looks like a no-problem, original coin. Retail would be about $20 or so. If you got it for say $10 to $15 I'd say you got a decent deal.

This is one series where many dates don't cost a great deal more in higher grades. If possible, I would stretch for examples that grade at least VF, preferably EF or better. Just my opinion!

The photos are small, so it is a little difficult to see details, but the coin is likely VG or F. I don't think there's enough detail to get it to VF. I love the 3CN's...great series. Nickel is hard metal, so there are lots of strike issues in the series, die cracks, rotated dies, etc. Every coin is an adventure it seems.

VG - That's got to be one of the most circulated 3CN I've ever seen! I've still never seen a Good or less, though.

That's no F12. I feel like I'm overgrading even with a VG.

Thanks to all who weighed in with an opinion. I spent $11 plus shipping on this one, Total just under $15 so hopefully I did not overpay by too much. Worn is ok with me, I am glad no one suspected cleaned.

Looking forward to building my 3 cent collection, I had to own at least one right away.

I will also work on getting bigger scans for future grading requests.
