I understand that at some point the RCM does disclose mintage figures for circulation coins - but that information apparently doesn't end up getting printed for one to several years later... I have read recently that the 2016 loonie is unusually low mintage - does anyone here know where this information comes from? I also haven't observed a regular 2016 toonie in circulation yet - does anyone know if there are any (even rumoured) mintages for that coin out? I finally gave up on looking for a 2016 loonie through roll hunting, but am wondering if I should just buck-up (punn intended) and buy a couple toonies as well... :)

According to one of my reliable sources in Winnipeg, due to the diversion to the 2017 Canada 150 special release, as well as the high mintage of 2016 lucky loonie and Women's right to vote coins (5 million each), the mintage of regular loonie is less than 1 mil and only struck in mid-Sept to mid-Oct.
Very similar situation as for the 1991 quarters, when the mass production were given to 1992 Canada 125th anniversary special issues of 12 quarters in the following year.

The 91 was actually because of a workers strike.

/\ oh?
I had always understood that the 1991 quarter was because most of the mintage was re-allocated for 1992 quarters...

So I just spoke to my friend who works at the mint. He told me that they only made one pallet of loonies.
Also that the gift shop had only 3 boxes of the regular issue .. and have sold out!
I would say if you can get your hands on one do so .. it may be a tough year to aquire later on. Unfortunately I only was able to pick up 2 rolls and I'm going to hold tight on those ones for awhile.

You can go to Colonial Acres and buy one for $2.50. That is what I did (actually bought a few).

i have understood that all these (post-2010) special loonies were done with a mintage of 5mil.
the only one I haven't seen hard printed numbers was the 2014 LL - which was EXACTLY the same coin as the 2012 LL with just a 2014 date.... lame.
Compare that to regular loonies for 2012/2013 at 107mil & 120mil.
@AgCoinAu:
I too would be interested in knowing how many boxes of loons per pallet, and if you can find any info from your friend on 2016 (regular) toonies...

If they are so low mintage why are they being sold by 20 or so sellers for 2$ Each and 30$ a roll. I Don't get it, might be a competition to see who can make the least money. If they were low mintage peoples shouldk be buying with both hands!

I was told a pallet of loonies is somewhere between $100-$150K (loonies not boxes) and I will get that number confirmed later on.
