I look up stuff on line all the time but doesn't really get me far.one website says one thong and other another thing.

You might want to try the magnet with the coin out of the 2X2 holder it is in. It won't hurt the coin, since the coin is very circulated.
Let us know if it's still magnetic when it's out of the holder.

Buy a few books on basic coin collecting, grading, etc. I'm sure many people here would have suggestions on which books to get.

You can ask question about your coins here. Also .... RedBook coin price guide is a reference PCGS has a good app .. Photograde ... to help with grading. Also a good online price guide is at numismedia.com In my opinion your Mercury dime will trade for silver value, based on it's condition.

Thank you GR58. For the Red Book reference. I've got brain freeze out here in Colorado today. At my age I can't afford to many frozen cells without consequences.
