We saw a lot of signs requesting US State Quarters a few years back while visiting other European countries and I felt bad that I didn't bring enough to spend while there.

I'm thinking of bringing Kennedy halves, Presidential/Sac/SBA dollars and state/national park quarters on our upcoming visit to Ireland. I want to make sure whatever I bring will be spendable without causing confusion.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Why would you bring US coins into Ireland? And who will be buying/accepting these? Coin shops? People trading US currency?

Living in northern Europe, I've never seen such requests.

This would be confusing unless you knew the exchange rate.
If you bring the coins for friends and relatives this is a great idea.

"Why would you bring US coins into Ireland?" Simply to provide a little fun for the collector looking for something unusual. I know how much I enjoy finding coins from other countries in my change.

"And who will be buying/accepting these?" I don't know. As I mentioned the people selling bus/train tickets we met were interested in US quarters during my last visit to Europe. We gave away every single one we had.

I'm not interested in selling anything. I know that I, like many others in the US, appreciate finding coins from other parts of the world. I assumed collectors in other parts of the world might share that appreciation.

I hope I didn't offend with my initial post or with this response. I was just looking to introduce something a little different into the mix during my travels.
Rest in Peace

I don't travel so I can't say for sure, but a friend from my local coin club said that when he was in England he used bicentennial two dollar bills as tips and they were greatly appreciated.

The quarters sound like a good idea because you could pay and tip with local money but add a US quarter without over-spending.

If the recipient likes it, fine. If not, it will probably find its way to someone who does.

Yes, people would like these coins, no, they won't accept them as payment.

Nothing wrong with giving them away to promote a few US coins out in the world, but virtually no one will accept them as payment.
