Here's another Walking Liberty half. This one was in an SEGS holder and I crossed it to PCGS. I specified on the submission form that I would accept a grade 1 point lower than the SEGS grade and that's how they graded it. As a general observation I've noticed a pattern for SEGS-to-PCGS crossovers. PCGS will downgrade the SEGS opinion by 1 point (or 1 grade level), unless they make one of their famous negative judgments, like "altered surfaces" (my favorite) or "cleaned".

Anyway, PCGS didn't find a problem with this coin. What grade do you think they assigned?

The toning looks like rust, but I still think MS64 or MS65.

What a beauty ! Nicely struck with a real well defined thumb, sharp gown details and what looks like just the slightest softness on the head. The reverse has all the breast feathers very well defined. Great luster -and IMO- the toning is beautiful. I have seen one other coin on here lately...I think you know which one Jaobler...that I said the same thing I am about to say here. I think this coin will be in the upper end of the grading spectrum, I cannot see any hits on the obverse of this coin , and the reverse is nearly as flawless. All of these things together lead me to an MS-66 grade...and that's my final answer ! Superb coin Jaobler, you have a good eye ! And if I would grade this a 66, surely SEGS gave it the lofty 67 it probably deserves....

C'mon Jaobler...make me 2 for 2....

MS-64 PCGS SEG MS-65 and ebay should allow SEG & PCI in they graded better than ICG.
plus David Lawrence just payed for PCI I do think he is going to get PCI on ebay
I hope they win the lawsuit and make ebay take the grades that PCI&SEG give coins!

I don't know what they assigned it, but it is some beautiful Walker.

But if I had to guess I'd say...MS-65

Thanks for the replies!
It used to be an SEGS MS-66; PCGS gave it a 65.

For technical grading SEGS seems pretty accurate most of the time. The drawback for SEGS may be that they slab coins with minor problems which are not described on the label. At least, PCGS in effect makes that claim when they "bodybag" an SEGS crossover submission. I'm suspicious that PCGS finds problems where none exist in order to maintain their rep as the fussiest graders around.

I have a couple SEGS coins that PCGS rejected. I'm tempted to crack them out and re-submit, just to see if PCGS still sees the same problem on the raw coins.
