If it were a double 5. it would be raised on the coin. The surface looks flat from what I can see? What am I missing that you see?

There is an extra bar below the original one.
Rest in Peace

Sorry, HT, I'm not seeing the double bar, either, other than the slightest bit of a shelf-like protrusion, which would make it MD.

On the devices side facing the rim, it is die wear/deterioration. Not a hub issue. If it were hub doubling it would be on all the date devices, not just one.

Movement of the hub is rotated a bit.

On this one it is not so strong on the date, but look at the motto. You can see stronger doubling there.

The last image shows a little something going on in it, but I can tell if it is flat or rounded at the tops of the '56'. It is flat just beyond the device, then it is Machine damage on that area. But a better image might show me more either way.

I'll take another picture tomorrow. I am starting to lose hope on that coin.

I've seen that before on a coin I once had. It was Machine damaged. When I was new at collecting, I felt the way you did. If it were hub doubled, it would be raised, and not flat like MD shows.

The more I look at it, the more I see that it is a Machine Doubling. Thanks coop!
