There are so few of these graded 70. 69s are a tiny fraction of this price.

If you are a registry fanatic, you gotta spend like you are insane.

And you are.

There are a tad over 500 of these so far...

I am not a registry person...never have been...or...did you mean I am insane?

I do have a original bank roll of 1986-1990's though. That's why I was interested

I found a receipt for the 90's

There may be 507 MS-70, but nearly 111,000 MS-69.

So there are roughly 220 69s for every MS-70.

A pretty small number, comparatively.

No I didn't think you were nuts - the sanity of the person paying the huge increase in price for a 70 is the one I'd doubt the sanity for.

You got one of the early ones from NGC. A nice low registration number. Here your coin and three from Heritage for comparison, the last one has an even lower reg. number than yours.

The good news is that the MS70 being sold was spot-free! I would hope so. Scratch and dent free too, I hope.

Two things:

..I would never PAY that for a similar ASE...but I would SELL one for that

...middle Heritage coin...what is that small burn-like mark (rim at 11 o'clock) doing on a Heritage 70 grade coin ...or any 70 grade coin

Maybe it formed after it was encapsulated.

Or they were just off their game that day.

Both fogging and white spots are very typical problems (especially for PCGS, and a bit for NGC) that occurred after encapsulation.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone to buy collections that included TPG'ed ASE and the owners just pulled their collections from their bank boxes only to find that there Mint State, Proof, Burnished (not so much), and Reverse Proof's have either developed fogging or white spots.

Buy your ASE TPG's in hand, or only from great photos of the ACTUAL COIN you will be sent, or you will see this fogging and white spots in your own hand too soon.
