Recently someone listed a 1970-D 5¢ doubled die obverse on ebay. I got it for $5.56. I checked both doubleddie.com and varietyvista.com and there is no obverse doubled dies listed for the date and mintmark. This really does look like a doubled die, could it be the first 1970-D obverse?

That looks more like contact marks on the coin to me. By making side by sides you could determine if the width is wider or not?

The FS looks very interesting. Could you try to get some better closeups?

The lines on IN and the 0 could be contact marks but the I don't think the doubling on FS can be contact marks.

Sorry for the low quality on the comparison image, I couldn't find a good 1970-D to photograph myself, so I found a photo of one online.

That looks hopeful. Mirrored, but hopeful.

The devices do look a bit larger.

If you look up 1970-S proof DDO the 1970-D looks similar. Also, I vaguely remember something about the D mint mark being low and close to the rim on some 1970-D nickels. I think you have something there. Contact Mike on this one.

I think you got a nice hub doubled die. You should contact John Wexler and James wiles. I would like to hear all opinions on this. This looks very promising

Just rediscovered this one while organizing my drawers. Completely forgot about this one sometime in the past two and a half years. Know that I'm able to take better pics I should post some more convincing images. I hope to send this one to Brian Ribar sometime soon.

That's a nice doubled die! The FS gives it away the most. Awesome find!

Mailing this one off to Ribar (who runs the Jefferson nickel section of Wexler's files) tomorrow, will keep you updated.
