This one has stumped me for a while. To the right of the MM there is an area that looks like a another "D" MM. It is hard to photograph but you can definitely see it is raised in person.

Note the die flow lines on that area in question. They match the fields. So if there are many of these, it would be a die issue. I ouwld like to see an image with the light at a different direction of the see if the flow lines are on the shadowed side of the area in question?
Rest in Peace

Note the light is coming from the right side. (SE) You can see the die flow in that area. The big question is if there the lowest point is lower than the fields?

I took a picture with the light coming from the left. In person I do not see a point lower than the fields and the flow lines go all the way over the bumps. I'm not sure how this could be a contact mark?

Thanks

Whatever it is it sure isn't a "D" - under alot of Mag you can see things that are just circulation damage and make something out of it.

I do like the die crack though!! Would this be chips in a worn die and the flow lines from that worn die went over the bumps produced from the chips?

Thanks Mark,

What is your reasoning for it not being an extra "D"? The anomaly being random die chips next to the mintmark would have been my second hypothesis.

The Die crack goes from the bow tie all the way to the rim.

It maybe an issue with the die. The die flow lines are on both sides of the raised areas. I.m not thinking a coin issue. More of a die issue I feel at this time. Have I seen this before. No. But anything is possible. Do I feel it is a mint mark punch? I've not heard of this before. So keep it safe for now. Maybe someone else has seen this before?

I edited the images and sent them to John wexler to see if he has seen this before?

Here is the Message from John Wexler:
Quote:

Hello Richard,

Based on what I see in the photos, it looks like some sort of die damage.

John

That was what I thought it was because of the die flow lines in that area. I'm thinking there should be a lot of these out there. In time more will probably be found.

Thanks for your help on this coop.

I guess it just some sort of die damage, but I'll put it aside anyway.

Having a resource of coins can be helpful for a new collector to be shown. Showing what is valuable and why some items are not a collectable.
