One flat half dollar. Looks like a train smash but seems really symmetrical. Just thought I'd see if anyone thought differently.

11.3g, oval dimensions 31.7 x 32.5mm, fully reeded.

I am going with sanded/ground. I have seen people grind cents, nickels, and other coins to use a spacers in a car's suspension.

When washers went from 1 to 2 cents each, my uncles started using cents on their race cars instead.

But full weight and 1-2mm too big doesn't seem to fit a sanding/grinding of the coin...

The sanding marks are still seen on the obverse. No proto-rim on either side.

The outline of the bust and Eagle looks like a normal strike. If it is wider than a normal half, it have have been squashed also.

Fully reeded and normal weight would seem it was struck in the collar and then altered (flattened) after strike. A broken collar would expand a bit, but not in this fashion. Can only speculate what was used. Maybe a hydraulic press? Thanks, Doug.

edit - I think the scuff marks are miss leading and happened after the before mentioned.

Your railroad track guess might be right. I know when I was a young brat I used to put coins (only pennies and nickels) on the tracks, and they would be way flat just like this example.
