Recently, I sent two 1859 DP9 No.5 coins to PCGS for cross grading.

One was a CCCS MS60. The other was a ICCS MS60.

I came across this ICCS AU50 on ebay and spit coffee all over my monitor.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1859-Large-....m2518.l4276

I have ICCS VF30 pennies that look as good as this one, with the same amount of wear.

So is this simply "grading creep" or did someone swap out a real AU50 coin and replace it with a VF30 example?

This coin is not AU. Not even close. Not even PCGS AU.

I must admit I admire the courage of the Landon Sale buyers buying the ICCS MS66s and MS67s. I would bet those coins will never cross at PCGS.

Not an expert on this issue by any means. but I do know there are some light strikes. Reverse looks sharp?

I agree it looks quite overgraded, like a 40 at very best?

I'm not a big believer in ICCS. Too many inconsitiancies and mistakes in my humble opinion.

Well, I hope you learned a lesson. Don't ebay and drink coffe at the same time.
Rest in Peace

Pretty terrible photos of a very dark coin. Although this apparently did receive a generous grade they had it in their hand when they graded it.

They've undoubtedly graded a lot more of these than I have.

So with the photos of a dark coin shot through plastic I'm not going to second quess the grade. Better photos would certainly be necessary, especially with such a valuable coin.

Agree with Alan's comments, my initial thought was also 40 with room to move seeing it in hand.

Maybe crack your 30 and resubmit raw

Absolutely no good to try to grade that coin with those pictures.

Can't disagree, but from what I can see of the obverse, the grade does seem generous.
