So I have been toying with the idea of a type set for a while, and the idea of a 20th (+21st?) century type set seems a lot more do-able than including the 19th century coins...

I have a $25 gift card for Amazon, so I looked just to see what they had... littleton's 20th century album and whitman's 20th & 21st century album can both be had for less than $25, so those are my options...

I'm leaning towards the Whitman album, it's cheaper by a few dollars, and includes the 21st century (more holes), but I was curious to hear other's opinions and thoughts...

Thanks!

The Whitman sounds good.

I have the (very difficult to find) Dansco 7070, which is 19th and 20th. Yes, the 19th is challenging.
Rest in Peace

Dancsco is probably the best album, but their discontinued 7070 is hard to find and well over your price range.

I agree that Whitman would be the preferred second choice.

You are about to embark on one or the most enjoyable challenges within US coins. Type sets will help you learn a lot about the time period you choose.

It's a good idea to make a want list with your preferred grades and prices for each selection.

I'd start with the Red Book and identify what YOU consider a 20th century type set.
Then see if you can find an appropriate album that covers what you want.

The nice thing about type sets is that there's no specific definition.
They are whatever you want.

I found a thread with pics of the Whitman album, I like having the newer coinage slots. I can't seem to find anything on what coins are in the Littleton album for comparison, except that it obviously doesn't include any 2000+ coins...

Still leaning towards the Whitman...

Thanks for the replies so far!

Well, I've ordered the Whitman album! I like that it has the 21st century coinage, and I was unable to find a list of the coins included in the Littleton album, making that one an "unknown ". Can't wait to start filling it, going to use BU coins, and I've got a good head start with coins already in my collection...

I will! I'll probably start a thread in the "modern coins" forum, since the majority of the coins in the album would fit there...

I also would consider the Intercept shield type album.

Dansco is my favorite but I do like the Intercept Shield for having
more 21st century coins.

The Whitman is also nice and easier to complete

Providing a list of coins the Whitman album holds would be good (maybe pics?)

I wanted to display my 20th century coins (already have a Dansco 7070), so I bought a framed board you can hang on the wall.

I'm not aware of any album for 20th century gold coins. I'm not into gold coins, only have one, so I really never kept track of gold albums.

Of course Dansco had the add-on gold pages for the defunct 7070 album (19th and 20th century). These might still be found on ebay.

Eagle Coin Holders has a 2 page album with pockets that fit certified holders. They call it: U.S. Gold basic type set 1838-1933. That don't help if you have raw circulated coins though.

Also you could try looking at Capital Plastics holders. I know they make a display to hang on the wall similar to the one which batboy posted.
